English Language Support for International Students

Tutor Support

The service provided by Klik2learn is designed to offer individual support to students of languages other than English who are studying through the medium of English. Klik2learn’s pool of tutors are all highly qualified and experienced language teachers with postgraduate qualifications in ESOL. The service is managed by Klik2learn’s Quality Assurance Manager who has many years’ experience of teaching English for Academic Purposes.

We will match students with a tutor from a similar subject area: science; business; humanities, etc. but the focus is on help with reading, writing, speaking and understanding spoken English at the level required for undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications.

Support with academic assignments is restricted to the following list. For example, tutors will not write or correct the academic substance of any submission, or be involved in the interpretation of academic sources or academic tutoring.

Typical support will focus on:

  • Correction of essays and dissertations to ensure grammatical accuracy
  • Highlighting areas where meaning is unclear due to inappropriate choice of vocabulary
  • Highlighting instances where there is inappropriate use of register
  • Assistance with correct paragraphing and punctuation
  • Use of conjunctive adverbs

Service delivery

The service will be provided using the following Klik2learn applications:

  • The digital notebook
Students can upload their writing assignments to the Digital Notebook. Tutors will mark and comment on the quality and accuracy of the English using standard assessment feedback which will be explained once a student registers with the service.
  • The Voice Recorder
Students can record any verbal presentations they want to practise and share the audio file with their tutor. The tutor can reply with an audio response.
  • Messaging System
Students and tutors can use the messaging system to communicate informally and practise electronic forms of writing. Tutors may also use this to forward extra practice material on areas of weakness identified for specific language skills.
  • Forum
Students and tutors can use the Forum for informal discussion and general conversation on particular topics of interest to extend writing skills.

Service terms

The tutor support service is provided asynchronously: it does not require real time communication. Students can buy support in blocks of 25 hours minimum at £40 per hour, to be used over a four month/academic term. Tutor time can be used in 30 minute sessions and a report will be sent each month of the time used.

All students have to be 18 years or older.

Payment is made in advance, and all registered students will automatically have access to Journey 2 English: 100 hours of multimedia, interactive language learning. Journey 2 English also gives students an in-depth understanding of life in the UK.
